Coming up with My Business Name

HTML Editor - Full Version

I decided to write a post on how I came up with my business name.

Coming up with a business can be difficult. I was racking my brain for months to come up with the perfect name making lists after lists. I was stressing myself out, which made it harder to come up with a name.

My first one did not give me the feelings I was hoping for. I wanted something silly, fun, bubbly, passionate, and personal. Something that fit my dreamer personality to a T. My first one seemed more broad-scoped and painterly. I wanted something that made my creations shine! So after months of mind boggling, I took the "homemade" from the name of a craft seller's seminar I had attended (so happy that they inspired me but I was nervous to take the lead I felt it had) and the fact that it was my creation and combined it with the "heartfelt" that I wanted to use, because I make things from the heart. Then I went to work searching for the perfect whimsical descriptive word it lacked. I wanted something silly, because my crafts are colorful and fun. They make me smile and brighten my day and hopefully others' as well.

After I relaxed and let it come to me the pieces just seemed to fall into place.

The logo and subsequently business card were the hardest to come up with. I tried for a while to come up with it and was so proud when I did. But the "letting it come to me" technique worked for drawing the type for my company's name. I used a psychedelic color palette I found and just alternated the letters and colors. Purple is my favorite color and the fact that it came from the heart is why I chose the red for the second word.

***So what I learned from this was to "relax and let and it come to me" and to just "think of what I wanted it to be or be like".
