Latest Etsy Shop Creations...

I saw other people blog their art and realized...Well duh, my blog is called Quirky Heartmade for a reason. I should put up some of my recent Etsy shop posts. My Etsy Shop: quirkyheartmade.etsy.com This painting is my own personal take on the grunge style . I have always been fascinated by the texture of brick walls and the bumpy appearance and the way the paint on the bricks can sometimes appear "sloppy", which is why I painted very loose and roughly. I went over the purple paint with gold, metallic marker. It is framed without glass because I find it really interesting to have it bare, to show the raw textures . I imagined it hanging on a plain, one color wall so that it appears like there is a patch of brick wall showing through. I thoroughly coated the artwork in protective, glossy sealer. I know a lot of people have their thoughts about no glass, but there are many canvases that work similarly. Canvases aren't always framed.  This painting is called "Ra

Random Painting Objects: Pt 1

Image
The contenders in the fight for best weird, random object to paint with are: The spoon weighing in at less than a pound, with a rounded head and thin handle The straw weighing in at a couple ounces as a cylindrical object The whisk weighing heavier than the straw but lighter than the spoon. A common household object for many! Let's hear it for the whisk. Might be perfect for making batter but how will it do with painting a masterpiece? Scissors, a very formidable opponent. No stranger to the crafting scene but can it paint? Light as a feather because it is one! Brightly colored and small in size, nowadays it's used often in crafts but in olden days was used for a very similar purpose. How will it work here? Watch the video to see how these opponents throw down the paint!

XOXO Love Face Mixed Media Painting

Image
my shop URL: quirkyheartmade.etsy.com I was just listing my finished artworks to etsy and it inspired me to talk a little bit about it. I was online looking at different contests trying to come up with a theme for a new art piece & I stumbled upon one for Valentine's Day that was limited to the colors pink, red, white & black. (The background is a peach color even though the light makes it look more orange-y than it is.) I felt like a girly, psychedelic make-up like piece would fit the theme perfectly so this piece popped into my head inspired by my favorite 70s artist, Peter max. He has a wonderful use of bright colors & pattern motifs. Google him if you ever get a chance! He's got a great hippy style!  About this work: (Description from my Etsy shop) This original illustration of a love face encompasses the feelings of love with its wide eyes, bright colors & love motifs and many patterns. Even the color palette is reflective of arduous emotions: red

Etsy Shop Reopening

Image
I recently took an online art business class, after taking a hiatus from my shop, and it really enhanced my idea of what my art is all about. It gave me that aha! moment I really needed. The assignment to tell what our personal creativity story was what really sparked my imagination. That got rid of some of the clutter in my brain and showed me where my focus should be at in my art and it gave me the inspiration to fill my shop with more consistent pieces! You can see my somewhat full-er story on my etsy about page . (*will open a new window ) For me the most important sources of inspiration can fall into two categories: my love of hippy art and the shapes and colors and patterns that exist there and my love of my Irish heritage, specifically the lore and rustic feelings I get from there. Fun fact: I did my humanities paper on the Druids, an ancient tribe of peoples that were native to many Celtic lands and were very secretive but still written about in various accounts from ruler

My Drawings

I just wanted to show my art. Here's a grouped photo! I will be selling these on Etsy very, very soon. Let me know what your opinion is.

Deciding where to start...

Well unfortunately, I deleted a post while trying to format the html. The main points were that I recently got an important piece of advice. To do only one thing at a time, which although not my style I learned a valuable lesson. To be happy as long as I get one thing done a day in the process of opening my business. That's why getting my business cards was so important to me. It just makes it all real and pulls together my vision. I am so excited about opening my business because it is always something I dreamed about. I would sit at my kitchen table and pretend to sell drawings to my mom or pretend like I was having my own craft show. So this is a really big thing for me. My art is colorful and bright and fun and it always puts a smile n my face. Like I hope it does for others. That's the most important reason why I love to make art, after all. It has always been about making others' people's days after the pull of how much it calms me an brings me to a

Drawing of a Psychadellic Monster

Image
I drew this simple drawing in crayon as part of a group challenge. He has three eyes, tusks, and long legs against a beautiful sky of stars. I was really amused by how the colors blended so well. Crayon always has a surprisingly cool effect even though I feel like it is too often avoided. **If anyone wants to share this, please reference where you got it from.*** Please leave comment (be nice!).
