Crow Medallion Chain on Burlap

After a wonderful day of shopping for pumpkins and treats and spending quality time with the family I was inspired to get creative and do some painting. I had a starter painting on a small canvas, but I did not want to stop there. However, I did not have any more canvases.... SO I IMPROVISED! :-D

I love the texture of burlap and painting on it is so interesting, because the texture can set the scene for whatever mood.

I had an image of a gold medallion with a chain link swimming around my head. I wanted to add swirling colors for an intricate jewelry effect! The bird was inspired by the idea of a crow brought to color! What colors would a crow love to wear? The passion and intensity of the bird brought me to the reddish color and blue tone that you often see found as a tint in the bird's natural colors.
I carried the red throughout the painting for intricacy and intensity. I feel that really made the painting round out well. It also gives a nice definition to the necklace chain.

Going to be putting it in a lovely little frame! Just have to find the perfect one to fit it since it's a little big with the height being 18 inches. I think I will wrap it around the sides. Added enough extra space for padding to trim around a frame.  Just so cute!!! Think I will add it to a collection of paintings I want to do for local fairs coming up in the new year!
