Still time for Creepy Screensavers...
Halloween Creepy Crawler
Imagine it! A dream catcher filled with Halloween bugs and candy. So gross sounding, I know. Cool! That was my inspiration for one of my latest drawings and Halloween downloads. I decided to add spider webs, because what Halloween scene with spiders is complete without long spindles of hair-like spider webs weaving across with spiders trapped in the web. Spiders crawling all across, shooting out more spindles and making their nest. Flies with huge eyes soaring away. Evil bats ready to fly towards the viewer.
I loved creating this art piece. Hope you like using it for your screensavers and personal use. Only 8.5x11 as original dimensions but it stretches perfectly onto my 15.6" laptop screen. Slight altering might be needed using the control panel on your computer. Possibly customize the colors and the picture position. Watermark will not be on the file you download. For sale on my Etsy! Only $3.
Behind the scenes...
It all started based on a tumblr search for dream catchers. Then I thought, "Oh hey, that can be a spider web!" I wanted candy on it because it wouldn't be the same without yummy treats to represent Halloween and trick-or-treating. I was drawing the bugs into the web when I got REALLY intrigued to keep drawing the flies, because they look so gross yet in a cool way with those GIANT eyes. I wanted to continue the predator/prey theme with the spiders coming after these giant flies by placing them around the outside of the web. I really feel like the spider web was well transformed from the dreamcatcher idea into the web, which is surprising because I wasn't really sure if I'd be good at making a spider web.
My tips on drawing a spider web? Just scribble and make the lines weave back and forth because if you think about it that's kinda what actual spiders do. They create the spindles by weaving them back and forth to create the webbing. Also, if you're doing it against a dark background try to use lighter colors, like how I used silver to outline where the webbing is. That creates a more textured and "realistic" look. I added a couple digital downloads for your enjoyment to my Etsy shop, so go ahead and check it out! :)
Happy Halloween!
