Predicted A YEAR BEFORE::....Are all artists a little crazy? (March 12, 2016)
Are all artists a little crazy? You think of the greats...Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo(was that an artist or just a mutant ninja turtle...just kidding I know it's an artist), and others. A lot of whom were a little alarming in their habits. There's artists now who are just normal people, but with all the ideas playing through an artist's head it can be a huge roller coaster. There's this meme that gets used a lot among artists that describes what I'm saying perfectly where they always have a million mental tabs open at once thinking of all the things they could be creating and how to promote and how to get better and what to do next. Just a little
Heck, I suffer from ADHD and possibly depression. Always wanting to create something new but being too scatterbrained to sit down and make it or telling myself I'm crazy and fighting off those voices so I can actually accomplish it. Not actual voices just that voice of extreme self doubt. Artists are notorious for being hard on themselves and why wouldn't they be? I know there are a lot of cultured people who appreciate fine art and the process that artists go through. There are also a ton of styles, whether it be realistic or cartoon. Trying to find a place where you can create something wonderful and be appreciated for what you create is the hard part. Whether you are looking to be appreciated by other artists or finding a place where you can create things for other people. Artists can be hard on each other, even though they understand that there are different styles that exist. Just reminds me of that female poet, Emily Dickinson, who hid her stuff away due to her extreme social anxiety and later became one of the greats. It's unfortunate to think that they could not be appreciated for their differences early on. As it also was with Leonardo da Vinci. That guy had to have some kind of ADHD with all the thoughts he had going on or was it just sheer boredom mixed with extreme intelligence? He had ideas for math, science, art, everything he wanted to bring into this world. So a lot of artists might not be appreciated even after they no are longer living, which will mean that a lot of there great stuff will be metaphorically buried with them which is the major downfall of having something take up so much of your heart and soul. I can stay up for days on end without sleeping just because creating fuels my soul. However, I know criticism is going to hit me hard because not everyone will see it the way I do and I know my fears and perfectionism will eat away at me even if I try harder and harder to create something spectacular that this world has never seen before, but you keep trying because there's something in your soul that you can't help but appreciate about the act f creating. The way your brain works, the ingenuity with your given materials, the passion that arises inside of you. I fall in love every time I walk into a craft store. I know I should allow myself to create because there's a great appreciation in the act of creating that other artists will feel too and you get sucked into this hole where you just simply fall in love with what you are seeing and you like everyone's stuff because you understand the dedication and time. I always worry about allowing myself to enjoy other artists' work because I fear enjoying someone else 's will take away from what I love. Kind of paranoid in that sense. Like enjoying their art must mean that I'm inferior or something? Never really makes sense because creating and being around people are my two favorite things and I don't want either to cease or to get to competitive that we can't give each other the common decency to realize even if it's not perfect(in our eyes) at least there was time and dedication to the medium.
Are all artists a little crazy? Not sure but if you think about how much dedication and sometimes obsession an artist can get to something that
