Quirky Heartmade

After spending time with the family I'm inspired to show off some of my favorite things I've been doing lately. I love art that I can show anyone and inspire them give them a sense of wonder. I was playing around on snapchat even before the crazy gifs came about(puking rainbows liking you're a hippy in the 60s & 70s) and I started drawing on the photo with crazy colors and adding fun text and images. Almost like I'm back in my advertising design classes(so much more creative fun than it sounds). Lol. I have a lot of these on my phone and I honestly kinda love them. It's like when you draw a moustache as a joke or horns. Remember back when that was popular? :P Me trying to get in the Halloween mood after doing a video for a contest!

I decided on a beret because whenever you hear about artists you always hear about France and wearing a beret like Madeleine in that cartoon. Maybe it was that cartoon orphan Madeleine? She convinced me to love France! That's an interesting realization. Never knew why I was so obsessed with France but that would make sense. Maybe that's why? Anyhow, when I was in high school, I took a couple French classes and I've just always wanted to go. Something about the language and just a great fascination with the country.  I have a screensaver on my phone of a France event screenshot I took off a video. Between the Seine river and the Eiffel tower and the Louvre and like I said the language. It all fascinates me. Even the culture. I'm sure having a French teacher, in high school, who spoke highly of the country and culture just adds to it. I started out by drawing something cute and before I knew it my cute illustration had got really spooky and scary! I'm a little frightened by my illustration, which means it is Halloween approved! Full of ghosts and evil spirits running amuck. Inside the screaming ghost's mouth there are other spirits and a pumpkin. I used an Illustrator (digital design program) brush to create the swirling eyes and splatter effect. There are pumpkins floating in the background and a fire breaking out just behind the ghost. Halloween Creepy Crawler Imagine it!  A dream catcher filled with Halloween bugs and candy. So gross sounding, I know. Cool! That was my inspiration for one of my latest drawings  and Halloween downloads. I decided to add spider webs, because what Halloween scene with spiders is complete without long spindles of hair-like spider webs weaving across with spiders trapped in the web. Spiders crawling all across, shooting out more spindles and making their nest. Flies with huge eyes soaring away. Evil bats ready to fly towards the viewer. Created last summer and inspired by my wonderful, younger nephews I created this silly faced fishy, which you can find on various products on my Spreadshirt shop, including t-shirts and this travel mug! Who doesn't love aquatic images and good humor? Perfect for brightening up on a cld, winter day when you can't stand the cld and for those who love fish and those who love swimming in the ocean! Not usually much for celebrating Halloween, even though I always love it. The spookiness in the air and the crunchy golden and orange leaves. The smells of the pumpkins mixing with the changing trees. The pumpkin spice lattes. Not reeeeady for the pumpkin spice yet but CAN'T WAIT to carve those pumpkins!!! Let's get out the pumpkin guts scoopers and let's go!!!! I'm on the markers for drawing those faces!!! Oh and those homemade pumpkin seeds. Mmmm!!! The fall version of summer's apple pie. Is apple pie summer? Good question. I recently bought some of those awesome lanterns, which I've always secretly had a thing for paper lanterns. Something about them. I don't know. Maybe it's a 2000s thing but I think they're so creative and funky. They're purple and cute with bats on them! Awesome!

Looking through my supplies for inspiration and ideas for my next Halloween mixed media project and I came across this quirky combination. It morphs cute and quirky and spooky all in one! A little bad to the bone with the skulls don't you think?  I have been loving the color pink lately and as always I have a love interest in bright colors! I bought the tape recently at a nearby print shop because it is just so multifunctional. The one with quotes on the left is so inspirational and fun. I felt like it added the perfect punch for Halloween with the oranges and greens and the black backgrounds of each make them complementary, especially since the inspirational one has a bit of a punch-y vibe to it with those throwback colors.
